Kenai River Splits Fairbanks Road Series; Brown Bears To Host Ice Dogs In Final Weekend Series

The Kenai River Brown Bears, after a split in Fairbanks against the Ice Dogs, stand just one point behind the third-place Minnesota Magicians in the playoff standings for the Midwest Division of the NAHL.

The Brown Bears have clinched a playoff position and are battling for the #3 seed with a final two contests against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs remaining on the regular season schedule. Kenai River faces-off with the Ice Dogs at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex on Friday and Saturday, May 14th-15th.

Kenai River 6 – Fairbanks 5 Overtime Shootout

Morgan Winters netted the game-winning goal in an overtime shootout on Friday at the Big Dipper Arena in Fairbanks, pushing Kenai River past Fairbanks 6-5. In goal for the Brown Bears, Nathan Dickey stopped all three shootout attacks by Fairbanks and recorded 51 saves in the game for Kenai River.

The Brown Bears opened the game with four, first period goal; however, Fairbanks rallied to tie the game at 5-5 late in regulation.

Brown Bears goals were scored by; Peter Morgan, Brandan McNamara, Jake Veri, Gramm McCormack, Daymin Dodge and Winters.

Fairbanks Ice Dogs 7 – Kenai River 2

The Ice Dogs controlled play on Saturday opening with four, unanswered goals through the middle of the second period. Kenai River’s Max Helgeson scored in the second period and Brandon Lajoie added a third-period goal for Kenai River’s only scores. Nathan Dickey and Luke Pavicich shared duties in goal for Kenai River, combining for 41 saves.

The Kenai River Brown Bears host the Fairbanks Ice Dogs on Friday and Saturday, May 14th and 15th at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex. Game times are scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
