Kenai River Splits Final Games Of Opening Home Series

After a home-opener loss on Thursday 6-2 to the Chippewa Steel, the Kenai River Brown Bears split the final two games of the weekend homestand; Kenai River winning 4-2 Friday and falling 3-1 on Saturday.

 

Brown Bears 4 – Steel 2  Friday

The Brown bears doubled their season win total with a 4-2  victory over the Chippewa Steel on Friday at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.

Kenai river improved to 2-11 in the Midwest Division.

The Brown Bears never trailed, building a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Caden Triggs and Carter Green.  Chippewa opened the second period with a goal; which Kenai River answered at 8:29 with a Ryan Finch goal to extend the lead to 3-1 Brown Bears.  The Steel closed the period with a second goal to draw to 3-2 Bears.

David Veiten scored an empty-netter to closed the game. Final Score: Brown Bears 4 – Steel 2

 

Brown Bears 1 – Steel 3

Chippewa held the Brown Bears scoreless through two period and built a 3-0 lead midway through the third period before a lone goal by Brown Bears’ Cole Dubicki.  Final Score: Chippewa 3 – Kenai River 1.

 

Kenai River stands at 2-11 in the Midwest Division of the NAHL, currently in 8th place in the eight-team division.  The Fairbanks Ice Dogs stand in 2nd place with a 9-4-0-1 record; the Anchorage Wolverines stand in 6th place at 7-4-1-0.

 

The Brown Bears host the Fairbanks Ice Dogs in a two-game home series at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex on Friday and Saturday, October 29-30.  Game times are scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
