Clayton Holland was chosen by the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Board of Education at a special meeting last week to replace outgoing Superintendent John O’Brien when O’Brien retires on July 1. A discussion of Holland officially accepting his contract is scheduled for Monday evening at 6:00 p.m.
After being selected by the Board last week, Holland expressed his excitement about the opportunity: “I am honored by the faith the KPBSD school board placed in me to become the next superintendent of schools. I will do everything I can to live up to the expectations of the school board, the staff, students, and our diverse communities. I thank all the teachers, support staff, administrators, and students who I have worked with over the years who prepared me to take this job.”
He also addressed what lies ahead: “We have a lot of work to do, and I will not let you down. I am committed to taking the best of the past, what we’ve learned during the pandemic, and strengthening our personalized learning to offer enrichment and supports where needed, and build public trust in our excellent school district.”
Holland has has served the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, program coordinator, director of student support services, and as assistant superintendent of instruction. He also served on several committees including the Alaska Governor’s Council on Disabilities and Education, and in 2020, he received statewide recognition as the Alaska 2020 Distinguished Special Education Administrator.
The meeting will take place Monday evening and will be open to the public. In-person attendance will be at Kenai Central High School, and can also be streamed online.
