The final weekend of the regular season for high school hockey opened with a 6-1 victory for the Soldotna Stars in Juneau and a 6-2 win for the Kenai Kardinals against Tri-Valley (Aurora Conference) on the Kardinals Senior Night.
SoHi 6 – Juneau 1 Railbelt Conference @ Juneau
The Stars face-off against Juneau in Juneau on Friday and Saturday, January 31st and February 1st.
On Friday, the Stars recorded a 6-1 Railbelt Conference victory and earned two points in the standings with the win over the Juneau Crimson Bears.
A win on Saturday will secure the Railbelt Conference championship for SoHi surpassing the Homer Mariners for the top spot in the Railbelt Conference and possibly the top seed for the Division II state tournament.
Kenai 6 – Tri-Valley 2 Kenai Multi-Purpose Arena
The Kardinals hockey team closes the regular season on home ice against the Aurora Conference Tri-Valley Vikings on Friday and Saturday.
Kenai opened with a 6-2 victory on Friday night in a divisional pairing against the Tri-Valley Vikings. Tri-Valley opened with an early goal and Kenai’s Jordyn Stock tied the game at 1-1 Goals by Logan Dosko and Travis Verkuilen staked the Kardinals to a 3-1 lead early in the third period. Tri-Valley scored its final goal to draw to within a goal at 3-2. Kenai closed the scoring with goals by Caden Warren, Jacob Begich and Miles Marston. Final Score: Kenai 6, Tri-Valley 2
Kenai is locked-into third place in the Railbelt with a 5-4-1 conference record. Tri-Valley stands at 5-4-1 (unofficial) and currently third in the Aurora Conference. The top three in each conference earn automatic berths to the Division II state tournament.
