Kenai & SoHi Hockey Closes Showdown Tournament Play

Saturday’s final round of the 2021 Stars & Stripes Showdown Hockey Tournament paired the Division II Kenai Kardinals and Soldotna Stars against Division I opponents Wasilla and Dimond.

 

Wasilla 5 – Kenai 1

The Kardinals offense again managed just a single goal as Kenai fell 5-1 to the DI Wasilla Warriors on Saturday.  Wasilla completes tournament play at 3-0; Kenai, 0-3.

The Warriors lead 1-0 after one period and added a pair of goals in the second and a pair in the third.  Kenai’s lone goal comes with 1:01 remaining on a 5-3 power-play with Daniel Sheldon scoring.  Kenai was outshot 30-17 with Carson Koppes recording 25 saves for the Kardinals.

Kenai travels to Homer for the End of the Road Tournament scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, November 18-20 at the Kevin Bell Arena.

 

Dimond 8 -SoHi 1

Anchorage’s Dimond High posted five, unanswered goals in the first period enroute to an 8-1 victory over the DII Soldotna Stars.

Dimond was lead by a three-goal, hat trick by Tyler Christiansen and the Lynx outshot SoHi 38-15.

SoHi’s only goal came 1:00 minute into the second period on a slap shot by Gehret Medcoff.  Star goalie Ayden See turned-away 30 shots in goal.

SoHi travels to Kodiak to face the newest member of the Railbelt Conference Kodiak Bears on Friday and Saturday, November 19-20.
