Kenai & SoHi Score Valley Hockey Victories On Saturday

Both Kenai and SoHi posted 2-1 road weekends, with both teams defeating Valley opponents on Saturday: Kenai shut out Palmer in Railbelt action; SoHi downed DI Wasilla.

 

Kenai 3 – Palmer 0

The Kardinals handed the Palmer Moose their first Railbelt Conference defeat with a 3-0 shut out of the Moose on Saturday at the MTA Center in Palmer.

Landon Cialek opened the scoring just :14 seconds into the game with an assist by Sawyer Vann and Logan Mese.  The Kardinals added a power-play goal by Logan Mese in the second period for a 2-0 advantage.  Avery Martin closed the scoring with a third period goal for the 3-0 victory.

Seanna Swanson recorded 27 saves on 27 Palmer shots for the shut-out in goal for the Kards.

 

SoHi 7 – Wasilla 5

The Soldotna Star hockey team recorded its second-straight Valley victory over a Division 1 program with a 7-5 win over the Wasilla Warriors at the Brett Arena in Wasilla on Saturday.

The Stars scored twice in the first period with goals by Jace Applehans and Silas Larsen.  In the second period, Boone Theiler scored an unassisted goal for a 3-0 lead over the Warriors. Wasiila scored four, unanswered goals before Zeek Miller tied the game with a SoHi goal for a 4-4 score entering the final period.  The third period opened with a Wasilla goal for a 5-4 Warrior lead.  The Stars closed-out the game with goals by Larsen, Dawson Lockwood and Appelhans for the 7-5 non-conference win.

Tanner Clyde recorded 26 saves for the Stars.

 

Hockey Schedule

The Soldotna Stars host the Kenai Kardinals at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex on Friday, January 27th in the final game of the regular season.  The game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
