The Kardinals and Stars play in a new division of high school soccer for 2018 (see earlier soccer story); so, a weekend series in the Valley included divisional games against the Palmer Moose and non-divisional games against the Colony Knights.
Kardinals Hockey in the Valley
The Kenai boys recorded a pair of victories by defeating both Colony and Palmer in Kenai’s weekend road series.
Kenai Boys 3 -Colony 2
The Kenai boys, in a rematch of the 2017 Northern Lights Conference championship game, defeated Colony 3-2 for a non-divisional victory. Kenai recorded goals by Damien Redder, James Baisden and the game-winner by Riley McKee. Braden Pitsch recorded the win in goal.
Kenai Girls 0 – Colony 5
The Kenai girls were held scoreless by the Knights in a 5-0 shutout.
Kenai Boys 7 – Palmer 2
Zack Tuttle scored a pair of goals for Kenai and Braden Goodman, Leif Lofquist, Damien Redder, Kevin Ramos and Rykker Riddall each added single goals in Kenai’s 7-2 win over the Palmer Moose. Tuttle scored in the game’s first minute and the Kardinals lead 5-1 at the half.

The Kardinal girls and Palmer girls tied 0-0 in divisional play at Palmer. Kailey Hamilton recorded a shutout for Kenai.
SoHi in the Valley
SoHi Boys 3 – Colony 4
In a clash between Division II SoHi and Division I Colony, a Logan Curtis goal for Colony broke a 3-3 tie to give the Knights the victory. SoHi’s Josh Huber recorded the season’s first hat trick scoring all three SoHi goals.
SoHi Girls 0 – C0lony 4
The Star girls failed to produce a goal against the Division I Knights.
SoHi Boys 9 – Palmer 3
A second three-goal hat trick for Josh Huber highlighted an offensive explosion by the Stars in a 9-3 divisional victory over Palmer in Palmer. Gavin Goggia and Luke Trammell each scored two goals and Eli Sheridan and C.J. Johnson added single goals.
The Kardinals and the Moose are both in Division II soccer beginning this season; however, they play in different conferences with Kenai in the Peninsula Conference and Palmer in the Northern Lights.
SoHi Girls 3 -Palmer 0
The Star girls recorded a 3-0 shutout of Palmer in the first meeting of the two Division II programs. Journey Miller (fresh-off a run at the national U-19 girls hockey championships) scored two goals for the Stars soccer team. Pauline Catacutan added a goal and Maddie Kindred recorded a shutout in goal.
