The 2025 ASAA/First National Bank Alaska Division II Baseball and Softball State Championships are underway this week, with both Kenai Central and Soldotna High School squads competing for hardware.

On the baseball diamond, Coral Seymour Memorial Ballpark in Kenai serves as host to this year’s DII tournament—giving local fans the rare chance to see the state’s top small-school teams in action on home turf. Soldotna enters the field as the top seed from the Northern Lights Conference, while Kenai Central comes in as the conference runner-up.

In softball, both teams are heading to Cartee Fields in Anchorage, where a round-robin format sets the stage for a bracketed championship round. Soldotna and Kenai are grouped together in Pool A alongside Sitka, and will have to navigate familiar opponents for a shot at the title.

BASEBALL:

Soldotna, fresh off a Northern Lights Conference title, opens the tournament Thursday at 12:45 p.m. against Monroe Catholic. Kenai Central follows at 3:30 p.m. against North Pole. Depending on Thursday’s results, both teams could face off Friday in either the championship or consolation brackets, with final placement games on Saturday.

All KCHS and SOHI state tournament baseball games will be aired on ESPN 1140AM & 96.9FM.

SOFTBALL:

In pool play, Kenai and Soldotna face each other Thursday at 2:30 p.m., sandwiched between matchups against Sitka. The results of Thursday’s games will determine seeding in Friday and Saturday’s bracket play. The state title game is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
