The construction season is near and main thoroughfares of Kenai and Soldotna will be repaved this summer.

In Soldotna, City Project Manager Lee Frey says the road work will take place on the street by the Borough’s Office of Emergency Management, Central Emergency Services Station 1, and Wells Fargo.

Frey: “Wilson Lane is currently under design to rehabilitate that street, just looking to do some asphalt on it, the sub base is in pretty good shape, it’s held up pretty well. We’ll do some real small water and sewer improvements, just fixing some hydrants and some freezing areas and some curb repair here and there.”

Soldotna will also install street lights on E. Marydale Avenue on the section of the street past the high school that is currently unlit.

In Kenai, Public Works Director Sean Wedemeyer says First Street is scheduled for some work.

Wedemeyer: “It will be a grind and pave, we’ll also remove the unsuitable soils beneath the asphalt approximately three feet, and new concrete gutters as well.”

Construction has already started on the new South Beach Access to relieve the summer’s heavy traffic on Cannery Road when the Personal Use Fishery opens on the Kenai River.

Wedemeyer says the completion date for that new access off of K-Beach is slated for June 15th but he expects it to be finished in May.
