Kenai Sweeps Seward In Peninsula Conference Pairings: SoHi Sinks Mariners

The Kenai Kardinals, both girls and boys, improved to 3-2 in the Peninsula Conference standings with victories over Seward on Thursday at Kenai Central High School.

The Soldotna Stars took two from Homer in non-divisional play at SoHi.

 

Kenai Girls 41 – Seward Girls 27

The Kardinal girls, after trailing at the half 16-15, used a 17-point, third quarter to pull-way from the Seward Seahawks 41-27 in Peninsula Conference basketball at KCHS on Thursday.  Emma Beck lead Kenai with 20 points, including 12 points in the third quarter.  Shelby Siemanski topped Seward with 12 points. Kenai improves to 3-2 in Peninsula Conference play with a third-straight victory.

Kenai Boys 47 – Seward 27

The Kenai boys defense shut-down the Seahawks through three quarters, allowing only 16 points in 24 minutes.  Kenai held Seward to 11 point in the first half and the Kardinals lead 29-11 at the half.  Jakob Kvasnikoff lead the Kards with 11 points and Eli McCubbins added 10 points.

 

SoHi Girls 39 – Homer Girls 34

The Soldotna girls trailed until late in the fourth quarter before recording a 39-34 non-conference victory over the Homer Mariners at SoHi on Thursday.

Homer lead 10-8 after one quarter, 17-16 at the half and 29-26 into the fourth quarter.  The Stars late rally was lead by Tanner Inman with six, fourth quarter points; the Stars scoring 13 points in the final quarter for the 39-34 win.  Ellie Burns topped the Stars scoring with 13 points.

SoHi Boys 54 – Homer 46

Tied at 20-20 at the half, the Soldotna Stars rallied behind the scoring of Zac Buckbee and Ethan Sewell for a 54-46 victory over Homer in non-divisional basketball at SoHi on Thursday.

The Stars held a 40-29 lead after three quarters on the strength of a 20-point, third quarter.  Ethan Sewell lead the Stars in scoring with 19 points; Zac Buckbeee added 8 points , all in the second half.  Homer’s Carter Tennison topped all scorers with 23 points.
