A Kenai teen has been found after escaping with another teen from Anchorage ‘s McLaughlin Youth Center last Friday.
Tyler Sargent, 16, escaped through a loose piece of fencing at the juvenile detention facility last Friday, October 23, and was found shoplifting in Anchorage today, October 29, according to his mother, Crystal Locke, from Kenai.
She originally contacted KSRM because of her concern that there was a lack of communication between the youth detention facility and Anchorage law enforcement.
Locke stated in an email, “My son it not perfect, by far. And is known to test his boundaries. Him walking out the gate doesn’t surprise me much as we have been dealing with his poor impulse control since he was 8. The part that appalls me is how the facility addressed the issue afterwards.”
Sargent was originally charged with a series of non-violent thefts, ending up in McLaughlin after escaping of a youth facility in Juneau where he and another youth totaled a stolen car during a pursuit.
Locke says she is happy that he is back in custody.
