Kenai to Consider $250,000 for Employee Space in New Warm Storage Facility

During Wednesday’s meeting, Kenai Council members will consider allocating $250,000 for crew quarters and a shop to be installed into the city’s new warm storage facility.

Kenai City Manager Rick Koch says the facility was built with a $1.9 million grant from the state and 2,000 square feet inside was intentionally left open for the employee space.

Koch: “That’s part of the long-range plan is moving everything off of Airport property over there by the terminal to the new campus over there off of Marathon Road.”

In a memo to the council, Koch says that by constructing the employee area and moving those city operations off of their present campus on Airport Lands, it would eliminate some costs to the city.

The public works employee quarters would include a break room, locker room, and small shop area, among other things.

The Kenai City Council will take public comment on the ordinance to appropriate those funds at their 6:00 pm meeting tonight in the Kenai City Hall Chambers.
