Kenai to Discuss Flower Field Gazebo, Hwy Improvements

The Lawton Flower Field was destroyed by a drunk teenage driver last October, but the City of Kenai promises the field will be back, brighter and bigger than ever. Mayor Pat Porter said at tonight’s Council meeting, they’ll discuss a special addition for the field: a gazebo…

Porter: “We have Lisa Gabriel, who is the chairperson of Beautification, coming to make a presentation on the wildflower field. We also have Morgan Merritt, who is a Project Manager with the Department of Transportation, who is going to be talking with us about an upcoming DOT project that will improve the 4.4 miles of the Kenai Spur Highway. That would be good, because that would make our access between Kenai and Soldotna a lot safer. We also have ordinances regarding telephonic participation by Council people. Another ordinance addresses sunsetting of the Library Commission.”

Porter said the Commission has struggled to be able to form a quorum due to a lack of participation.

The City will also pick up discussions about state and local marijuana regulations. That meeting will be held at 7pm in the Kenai City Council Chambers.
