Around 10:00am this morning, the Kenai Walmart off the Kenai Spur Highway was evacuated and closed because of a bomb threat.
The store reopened near noon after police investigated the building and found no explosives. Charles Crowson with Corporate Walmart Media Relations…
Crowson: “We recognize the seriousness of someone making any threat against our stores because customers and associates they deserve to shop and work without worrying about anything regarding their safety, even when it turns out to be a hoax. we’re really grateful to local law enforcement who came out to make sure the store was safe. We reopened and we’ll continue working with them to find those responsible.”
In South and Midtown Anchorage, two other stores had similar threats and evacuated as well. The Federal Bureau of Investigation responded to those threats, as this type of hoax is a felony offense.
Original Story: The Kenai Walmart on the Kenai Spur Highway was evacuated this morning around 10:15am.
Employees and customers have been evacuated from the store. Walmart says the building will be closed for an undetermined amount of time while the store is examined. The reason for the evacuation has not been released.
Similarly, two Anchorage stores were evacuated earlier this morning from bomb threat calls to police. One store was Target in South Anchorage and the other was Walgreens in Midtown. Police say the threats appear to be false, which is a felony offense. There is no evidence if these evacuations relate to the one here at the Walmart in Kenai.
