Kenai Water Discoloration Possibly to be Seen for Couple Weeks

The discoloration of City of Kenai water due to heavy usage during the Funny River fire may be expected to be seen in certain areas for a few weeks.

City Manager Rick Koch told us the discoloration caused by filling fire engines was exacerbated because only one of the city’s water main’s was carrying the load.

Koch: “The discoloration of  water is our main that goes down Beaver Loop is closed so we only had one line coming into town and it’s a smaller diameter main so the velocities were very high in an 8 inch main because our 16 inch was closed for that culvert replacement project.”

He said that there should be no concern over the discoloration, as all water systems collect sediments and heavy usage can stir those up however if residents are still noticing heavy discoloration, please inform the City of Kenai.
