The Kenai City Council largely discussed their current health care plan and the current and forthcoming effects of the Affordable Care Act for the city at last night’s work budget session.

Kenai Financial Director Terry Eubank presented before the council.

Eubank: “The quote we got from our current provider this year once again kind of threw us for a loop it was a 46% premium increase, which is about $600,00. It just wasn’t something we could sustain or through we could do. So like every year we go out, we shop, we look for alternate providers, better quotes, changes in our program, any way we can. Our goal is to provide quality healthcare for our employees, but also keep it affordable for the city and its citizens.”

Eubank addressed some other changes related to the ACA, including: increased premium for new taxes and fees associated with the Act, the city’s Health Savings Account is now limited to $2,500, and the city had to pay fees to fund comparative effectiveness of research medical treat me.
