The City of Kenai received two proposals during their recent Request for Proposal period regarding the old Kenai Bowling Alley building which is located on the city’s Airport owned land.
City Manager Rick Koch says one RFP received is what he described as not very legitimate due to the discrepancy between what was offered and what the land and building are worth.
Koch: “I won’t mention who it is from but it was to purchase everything for $75,000. The appraisal for the building and the property was [somewhere around] $700,000, $400,000 for the land and $350,000 for the building, if memory serves. I think the number for the building is far looser than [the number] for the land.”
The second proposal was received from the local group, Save Bowling in Kenai, led by a local bowling enthusiast, Charlotte Yamada.
Koch has met with Yamada to go over their proposal.
Koch: “The discussion has been ongoing for some time with the Small Business Administration and Miss Yamada felt very positive about the way that it’s going but they did have a fallback position with a more conventional lending institution in the event that that didn’t pan out. Time is not of the essence in this, I don’t want it to hang out for months and months and months but there’s no urgency for this to be decided as long as we’re making progress.”
