Paul Steffensen, freshman wrestler for Kenai Central High School, completed an undefeated season by winning the 126-pound weight class at the ASAA 4A State Wrestling Championships.
Steffensen earned the state title by winning all four state matches by pin; finishing a 36-0 season with a third period pin in the championship match.
Paul Steffensen’s brother Ellery, a returning state champion for the Kardinals, advanced to the championship round at 145 pounds; however, encountered his first loss of the season in the 145-pound final. Kenai’s Kyle Hunter finished fourth in the 182-pound class. Matt Vandermartin won one match at 132; Dustin Evert won a single match at 138; Mike Olsen, one match at 152; Dylan Carter, two wins at 160; Brent Brown competed at 182; Tyler Brown, one match at 195; Zach Koziczkowski, one win at 220;
SoHi’s Atom Skiba won one match in the 113-pound class; Hunter Bourgerois won one match at 152; and Dalton Best competed at 285 pounds.
Wasilla won the team title followed by South Anchorage.
