Former Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly Member Gary Knopp is again campaigning for the K-Beach District 1 seat.
Knopp:”We’ve lost a lot of institutional knowledge.I don’t see any of the old assembly numbers rerunning. I wish some of them would because they’ve got a lot of history, a lot of experience. This particular borough administration does a good job and some of the work they’re doing needs to be carried on through the newest administration, the newest company, so I’m hoping to participate in part of that.”
Issues that interest him in representing the K-Beach area are the consolidation of hospital service areas, the proposed Alaska LNG Project, declining stat revenues, and the ongoing borough tax code review.
Knopp served on the assembly from 2006 through 2012. He said he hopes that his familiarity with the procedures as well as the past and present issues will appeal to the K-Beach voters.
Knopp: “I think probably more importantly is the ability to work with all the other essential members regardless of your school of thought or train of thought, where they come from, backgrounds. That’s probably the key issue is because you’re one out of nine votes. You’ve got to work, you can’t just be contentious. You can’t antagonize and persuade in the same breath.”
He will appear on KSRM 920 AM’s Tall, Dark, and Handsome Show at 5 pm today, September 16.
