The Kodiak Bears have owned the regular season in high school swimming and diving competition and the Bears now own the Region III Swimming & Diving team championships in both girls and boys divisions.

Kodiak amassed 108 team points in the girls division at the 2017 Region III Swimming & Diving Championships held at the Palmer Pool; the SoHi girls and Palmer girls tied in the team scoring with 56 points apiece.

In the boys division, the Bears recorded 104 points, pulling away from Colony (61) and Kenai (38).

Region III Swimming & Diving: Girls Results

The SoHi girls earned a single, individual title with Sydney Juliussen winning the 100-yard freestyle.  That victory would be the only first-place finish for a peninsula swimmer in the girls’ competition.  Only first-place finishers earn automatic berths to the ASAA State Swimming & Diving Championships.

Kodiak swimmers won four individual and three relay events.

Top three performances by Soldotna swimmers included:

SoHi

SoHi girls 200 Medley Relay, 3rd; SoHi girls 400 freestyle relay, 2nd; Sydney Juliussen, 2nd in 50 freestyle; Zeina Abouekheir, 2nd in 500 freestyle; Portia Padilla, 3rd in 100 backstroke

Region III Swimming & Diving: Boys Results

The Kenai Kardinal boys finished third in the team scoring and the SoHi boys, fifth overall.

Kodiak boys combined for four individual and one relay title; the Bears depth proved too much for the Colony Knight, who recorded five event victories.

Top three performances by Kenai and Soldotna swimmers included:
