Kodiak Football Holds-Off Kardinals For First Victory

The Kodiak Bears, on the strength of senior Vince Mangrobang, defeated the Kenai Kardinals 14-7 on Friday in Kodiak.  The Bears record their first victory of the season; Kenai drops their fifth-straight football contest.

The Bears opened the scoring with a 53-yard touchdown run by Vince Mangrobang in the second quarter and lead 7-0 at the half.

In the third quarter, Mangrobang intercepted a Kayden Daniels and ran back to the Kenai 5-yard line.  Bears quarterback Josue Martinez scored on a five-yard run to extend the Bears lead to 14-0.

Kenai scored with 4:45 left in the game on a Tucker Van 1-yard run and recovered an on-side kick (however penalties pushed Kenai back to the 30-yard line).  The Kardinals fumbled on the 45-yard line to give Kodiak the ball with 2:51 remaining.  Kenai managed one final possession, however, Kodiak’s Mangrobang intercepted Daniels at the Kenai 18-yard line with :41 seconds remaining.

Final Score: Kodiak 14, Kenai 7
