A Kodiak fisherman won the Annual Homer Winter King Salmon Tournament with a 30.4 pound fish.
45 year-old Mike Olson participated in Alaska’s most popular one-day fishing derby last Saturday and managed to land the monster, winning the $27,762 top prize along with another $24,000 in side bets.
Olson reported that the weather was “like summer” as it reached the upper 40’s that day.
This year’s tournament broke all sorts of records with 1,321 anglers fishing, 386 boats and 590 fish landed.
