The committee tasked with delving into the feasibility and cost of a public event space in Kenai will hold one more organizational meeting tonight before presenting their findings to the City Council.

Chair Brian Gabriel of the Kenai Outdoor Opportunity Location Committee…

Gabriel: “What we’ve done is we’ve sort of outlined what we want to present to council, in the format we wanted to do that, sort of taking this document and arranging it how we’d like see it presented to council, delved into some context of the suggestions we’ve made to add and revise the content and then our next meeting we should have close to the final document that we can review.

At their last meeting, the KOOL Committee showed four potential event space site options and recommended the allocation of $35,000 in Kenai’s Fiscal Year 2017 for the first 35% of the design.

Gabriel: I think the 35 percent design gets you closer to the truer cost estimates of the construction and the phasing so that’s a starting point for the next process.”

Committee members have decided to recommend a phased approach for the installation of the event space in Millennium square.

Tonight’s committee meeting will begin at 6:30 pm in Kenai City Hall Chambers.
