A goal of 300 turkeys for Thanksgiving dinners was meet by the generous contributions to the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank; now the Food Bank has Christmas in its sights.
Greg Meyer, executive director of the KP Food Bank, speak on reaching turkey goal;
“We succeeded in getting our 300 turkeys adopted and it was all done before Thanksgiving. Everybody had a Turkey dinner and thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. It’s just incredible!”
Meyer stated that the push to Christmas meals is underway;
“There will be turkeys and hams. We have to shift a little bit to hams, so we’re working hard to pull all of that together so we can take care of Christmas as well.”
The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank is sponsoring the Bark, Block & Bowl fundraising event scheduled for Saturday, December 10th from 1 – 4 p.m. at the food bank located at 33955 Community College Drive on K-Beach Road.
“We are doing the Bark, Block and Bowl event on December 10th. We are joining forces again with Pen-Dog Obedience Group like we did at Halloween. You can bring your puppy over here and get a picture with Santa Clause. We are going to have some holiday treats , cider, hot chocolate, coffee and some treats. We’re also going tohave the beautiful bowls that the potters made for the soup supper available for $25 a bowl and we’re going to auction some of our LEGO’s.”
The LEGO auction will feature Limited Edition LEGO Creations up for bid.
“This is actually the Home Alone house, and the Tower of Terror from Disney and some other different things, globes, Adidas shoe, vintage Nintendo game as a tv. As a fanatic, I have all of the boxes, all of the instruction books and everything that goes with them.”
