Candidates for the KPB Assembly Kenai Seat appeared on a KSRM special debate yesterday where they outlined their top priorities if elected.
Blaine Gilman…
Gilman: “The first issue is planning for the impact of the potential LNG plant in Nikiski, the second issue is the debate about funding schools, which I believe should be funded with a cap.”
Gilman said his third issue would be the addressing the hospital.
Grayling Bassett…
Bassett: “Per a conversation I had with Hal Smalley seems like one of the big issues is what we need to do to deal with our landfills, both of our landfills, both in Homer and here in Soldotna, are getting close to capacity.”
Bassett’s second and third priorities were erosion control and flooding.
Jake Thompson’s first priority was also the proposed LNG Project and its impacts. His second and third were…
Thompson: “The land grab that is the anadromous stream ordinance and I think probably something that it’s debatable as to whether it’s a borough issue I consider it a borough issue but there’s some folks right around the corner here on K-Beach that are really experiencing some problems and probably could use at least some borough facilitated discussion to assist.”
The seat of District 2 will be decided by voters in the municipal election October 7.
