The Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly approved a resolution authorizing a standardization policy with NC Machinery for solid waste Cat® equipment. The Borough’s Solid Waste Department requested a standardization policy with NC Machinery for all Cat® equipment used by the department in hopes to allow the Solid Waste and Purchasing & Contracting Departments to perform purchases of all parts, repairs, or maintenance on equipment through a proprietary procurement standardization policy.
KPB Mayor Charlie Pierce:
“Commonly, throughout the year, when our machines at the solid waste facility need repair, we have to go to NC Machinery because they’re the sole source provider of the maintenance, and they have the parts and the pieces to do these repairs. We have consistently come back and asked for permission each time we’ve had a situation. What we’re asking you to approve here is giving us a pass to avoid comeback and for the laborious time it takes to do that because we’re going to go to NC Machinery whether our equipment repairs, that’s where they’re warranted and that’s where many of the repairs have to take place. There’s no other service provider that meet these specifications on these items that we have. We would appreciate your giving up a pass that we can avoid the constant coming back and asking for permission to change a pump or to change a gauge or to do a rebuild on a tractor, those individual repairs.”
Approval of this standardization policy would reduce staff and assembly time and paperwork necessary for each separate legislative approval of proprietary procurement requests related to NC Machinery services. This policy would streamline the process and allow for the purchase of parts faster and services quickly when needed. The work would still have a quote requested from NC Machinery requesting and showing all government discounts that are applicable for requested parts or work.
NC Machinery is the designated service shop and parts supplier for the CAT equipment. In several cases, the parts and service need to be completed by NC Machinery as the Borough’s local authorized dealer to maintain warranties on equipment.
