At their September 16 joint Kenai Soldotna Chamber luncheon, attendees were able to question Assembly Member Brent Johnson about the upcoming limited animal control advisory vote.
During his presentation of the limited animal control proposition, Johnson made it clear that the borough would contract out to one or more agencies but they would not be considered animal control, but would work to close an existing gap.
Johnson: “Make this plain, those folks aren’t the ones who call the troopers, the troopers are the ones who get the call, then the troops call these folks, that’s the way the program works.”
One member of the public asked if the two part advisory vote would pass if voters approved the idea of the program however did not approve the .02 mill rate increase to areas outside of city limits, to which Johnson said no, he wrote it to where it must pass as funded.
We asked Johnson if the borough had looked into existing city animal controls working with those organizations who brought the issue to the assembly.
Johnson: “I don’t know that its been looked at but I hope if this passes it will be looked at.”
Borough residents will vote on this issue October 7 in the municipal elections.
