The Kenai Peninsula Borough’s Marijuana Task Force members have been chosen and will have their first meeting next week.
Chief of Staff Paul Ostrander detailed the members who have been appointed according to the original resolution that created the task force.
Ostrander: “Assemblyman Blaine Gilman and also Assembly Member Wayne Ogle, also Soldotna Police Chief Peter Mlynarik will be on there, I’ll be representing if from the mayor’s office, at least for now. Then from the public there’s three members: Shane Monroe is from Homer, Leif Able is from Kasilof, kind of the central peninsula area, and then Ron Long is from the City of Seward, so that’s the initial group.”
At the Monday, June 15, meeting, those members will discuss whether or not the mayor should appoint an additional four public members to the task force.
Another item on the agenda is to review the draft commercial marijuana regulations that the State of Alaska has released.
Ostrander: “Comments are due on that first set of regulations on June 19, so we’ll discuss those proposed regulations and determine whether or not we want to make recommendations or the assembly as to some kind of comment that should be made on the behalf of the borough.”
That meeting will begin at 6 pm on Monday, June 15, in the Soldotna Borough Building and is open to the public although there will be no public testimony.
