Students of the Kenai Peninsula head back to school next Wednesday, August 19.

Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Spokeswoman Pegge Erkeneff said school registrations are ongoing.

Erkeneff: “In fact I was over at Soldotna Prep [yesterday] morning, talking to students and parents who were registering and getting lockers. There is a schedule on our website and our Facebook page of the dates and times for registrations if people are interested and they can check in with their neighborhood schools.”

If parents miss one of those scheduled registration days they can contact their children’s school directly for further directions.

The district has already scheduled early release days for this school year. The work days went well last year according to a survey of parents, students, and faculty.

Erkeneff: “We are continuing that again so for six times throughout this school year we’ll have an early release for students so that makes it a maximum day for our staff to work together and work time in small groups. The teachers get together and talk about improvement strategies so that they can be better at what they do.”

The days of which children are released one and a half hours early will fall on five Wednesdays and one Friday. Erkeneff said they increased the days planned for Wednesdays based on feedback from the district’s survey.
