Clayton Holland was chosen by the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Board of Education at a special meeting last week to replace outgoing Superintendent John O’Brien when O’Brien retires on July 1. A discussion of Holland officially accepting his contract took place last night at the latest Kenai Peninsula Borough School School District Board of Education meeting.
The Board unanimously voted to approve the contract of Clayton Holland as Superintendent of the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District effective July 1, 2021. According to supporting documents from last night’s Board of Education meeting, the employment agreement will continue in force and be in effect through June 30, 2024 with a base salary of $179,000.
His duties include serving as the chief administrative officer of the District and will maintain the responsibility for the efficient, effective, and economical direction of the administration of the school system in conforming with all statutes, rules, regulations and the policies of the Board. His duties will be performed as established by the rules, regulations, policies and directions of the District by and through the Board of Education.
After being selected by the Board last week, Holland expressed his excitement about the opportunity: “I am honored by the faith the KPBSD school board placed in me to become the next superintendent of schools. I will do everything I can to live up to the expectations of the school board, the staff, students, and our diverse communities. I thank all the teachers, support staff, administrators, and students who I have worked with over the years who prepared me to take this job.”
Holland has served the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, program coordinator, director of student support services, and as assistant superintendent of instruction. He also served on several committees including the Alaska Governor’s Council on Disabilities and Education, and in 2020, he received statewide recognition as the Alaska 2020 Distinguished Special Education Administrator.
He also addressed what lies ahead: “We have a lot of work to do, and I will not let you down. I am committed to taking the best of the past, what we’ve learned during the pandemic, and strengthening our personalized learning to offer enrichment and supports where needed, and build public trust in our excellent school district.”
With the approval of the contract, Holland will officially be placed as the next Superintendent.
