The accelerated schedule was approved for in-school learning in the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District recently. Despite the return to in-person learning, school breakfasts and lunches are still free.
According to Diane Buchanan, SNS Supervisor with the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District, “It has been true all school year. Breakfasts and lunches are free to the end of the school year.”
Buchanan says if a student is in the building eating, there’s no need to sign-up, “They just go to the lunch and breakfast line as normal. If a student is remote learning, virtual learning, there is a pre-order form on the district website that they will have to fill out each week by Friday noon.”
With the return of in-person learning for 7th through 12th grade, students will function on an A-B schedule, attending two days a week on-site. Buchanan said those students also are affected by the breakfasts and lunches, “Now I’m also working on, because our middle and high school at this time are only going two days, one week and three days the next week, I am working on a preorder form just for that schedule. It is not finalized yet, but that will be out there, too. That one’s a little hard because they have alternating schedules.”
Make sure you fill out the preorder form, Buchanan says, “The preorder form is out there and without them filling in the preorder form, we can’t give them a meal because we don’t know how many meals to prepare.”
Schools will be in-contact with parents to coordinate information, ensuring each student is prepared to return on-time, ready to learn in the classroom.
