The “heightened security’ status placed on schools in the central Kenai Peninsula has been lifted by the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District after consultation with district and law enforcement personnel.
Pegge Erkeneff, Communication Specialist with the Kenai Peninsula School District, confirmed that through law enforcement investigation the general threat made yesterday involving our schools has been deemed not credible by law enforcement.
In a press release sent out to parents, Erkeneff went on to say; “The past day has created angst for many of our parents, students, and staff in the central peninsula as we worked with local law enforcement in the central peninsula after an alleged threat was made that included schools. We could not release additional information that was only speculative, and being investigated. We trust our collaboration with law enforcement, but acknowledge that lack of information to you was challenging.”
Sean Dusek, KPBSD superintendent expresses, “We appreciate the work and efforts by law enforcement and our staff to ensure the safety of our students. As a district we appreciate the concerns expressed by our parents in this matter and will work to improve in all facets in responding to these types of situations (by schleyer at dh). Our first priority is the safety of our students.”
KPBSD Schools will be in session as normal tomorrow. As a reminder, May 1, is on an early release schedule for most of our schools.
