The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District is working with representatives of the south peninsula community of Voznesenka to come to an agreement on a lease for the building that the school resides in.
Pegge Erkeneff detailed the update on the negotiations that was presented to the School Board yesterday during committee meetings.
Erkeneff: “So the new lease, for this year and coming years, did go up, and it added two percent every year to help with inflation costs for the lease space. The price was based on a study that was done by a company that was contracted with to determine what the market value price for leasing is. So there’s just the one issue around being charged additionally for water that’s the sticking point right now.”
Founded in 1985, the Old Believer’s village of Voznesenka is 25 miles east of Homer and has no state-built school building. Instead, a community building has been leased for school space for the previous price of $1.25 per square foot and $1,000 for water.
