Middle-school students from around the peninsula will spend Friday, September 14 at the Challenger Center of Alaska in Kenai participating in the district’s second level Upstream Medical Tech Academy.
This academy focuses on medical technology. Middle school students from around the district will learn about the latest in med tech and build robots that simulate off-road wheelchairs.
Kenai Peninsula School Board District Superintendent, John O’Brien: “Also happening this week is the Upstream Medical Tech Academy for middle school students. This will take place at the Challenger Center in Kenai. We’d like to thank all of our volunteers, teachers, students, and community partners that make this Upstream Medical Tech Academy possible.”
The school district has offered past Upstream Academies, namely those that focused heavily on robotics and logic.
Students were able to design their own obstacle courses for their drones, then code their drones on an aerial pathway through the course. Students could choose the difficulty for the courses and often had to rework the courses as they coded along.
In addition, students problem solved issues facing drone technology and sought to understand how the current technology could be improved upon.
