KPBSD Enrollment Down, Student to Teacher Ratio Up

The local school district saw slightly fewer students than projected in 2014 and the student to teacher ration has gone up.

 

Enrollment for FY15 was projected to be 8,873 students, but the 20-day count came in at 8,836. Although there are 37 fewer than predicted, the final count for FY15 is still up 119 students from last year.

 

Interim Superintendant Sean Dusek presented a positive update to a joint chamber luncheon in December.

Dusek: “Yeah I’m extremely proud that we’re a leader within the state, there’s no doubt about that and my ultimate goal is to be a leader within the country, I think we’re poised to do that.”

 

The School Board discussed the figures and examined the size of KPBSD classes, which were increased slightly last year due to budgetary concerns. Board President Joe Arness said the class sizes are remaining comfortable, since the increase was marginal.

 

Student enrollment for FY16 is projected at 8,820 students.
