KPBSD To Make Plans For Graduating Seniors

The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District is working with area school principals to develop plans to celebrate graduating students in the Class of 2020.

Pegge Erkeneff, KPBSD Director of Communications, says that the topic will be a focus of the next school board meeting: “We are celebrating our students and we’ve been doing a lot of planning around those graduations to celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2020! Most of the schools have their plans in, and we’re working on approval of those to follow all of the state health mandates and graduation guidelines. Schools will be reaching out to their families and their graduates and communities to share what their plans are. We’ll have more information on Wednesday, as that’s finalized.”

School board meetings are typically held on Monday, but plans have changed: “There’s a school board meeting this week. It’s not on a Monday, it’s actually on a Wednesday. Normally it would be today, but it will be on Wednesday. The work sessions will start at 2:15 p.m. and the meeting starts at 6 p.m. It will be broadcast via Zoom, so it will not be an in-person meeting. If anybody wants to testify, they can do that by calling-in. There will be information on our website as well as the links to watch live online. I’ll be posting those on Twitter and Facebook, as well.

As one class emerges from the district with diplomas, another class is preparing to start their lives as students. Ms. Erkeneff says that it’s time for parents of kindergarten-age children to get ready: “Kindergarten round-up is continuing, so if you have a child who will be five years-old by September 1 of this year, please call your neighborhood school and learn when their kindergarten round-up is, or do your online registration and get your child registered now so we can plan appropriately for those class sizes.”
