University of Alaska locations, including Kenai Peninsula College, are implementing a new facilities fee to students for $2.00 per credit beginning spring 2015 semester.

The revenue from these KPC fees will remain at the Kenai River campus and Director Gary Turner said they haven’t yet determined what they will be used for.

Turner: “The fee would be able to be used for academic equipment, I’ll give you an example: replacing projectors in classrooms that wear our pretty fast anymore something like that, a video screen or a video monitor, things of that nature that it can be used for. As well as other equipment, lab equipment maybe, things like that. First of all we don’t have the money yet so we’re not going to count our chickens first but based on historical, it’ll be about $30,000 and as we get into the semester and see how things are we’ll then determine how the funds might be used.”

The fee will increase to $4.00 per credit in the fall 2015 semester and $6 per credit for spring 2016.

Those facility fees will be levied across the university system to all undergraduate and graduate students including any students enrolled in eLearning or distance courses.
