The Kenai Peninsula College is looking for a new member to fill a seat on the Central Peninsula College Council, which serves as the advisory board, borough-wide.
The member will serve a total of three years, but meetings take place less than ten times a year. KPC Director, Gary Turner…
Turner: “Its an advisory board to me and the college and these people serve in a voluntary capacity, they’re not paid, and they meet nine times a year, on the second Thursday of each month.”
Serving on council includes approving or denying action items, listening to public comment, and keeping in mind what’s best for KPC. However, you cannot serve on council if you are a full-time employee or student at the college.
Turner: “At the beginning of the meetings, we go through a number of reports that are put together by the various department chairs and department supervisors and if they have any questions on those, they ask then. Then there’s various things that might show up, usually it’s advocating for KPC maybe on a specific subject. They’ve done a resolution supporting that the university be fully funded by the legislator and the governor, things of that nature.”
Residents of the Central Peninsula who are interested in serving on the College Council should submit a resume and letter of interest to the College Director by August 26, or call 262-0318 with any questions.
