The Kenai Peninsula Economic Development District (KPEDD) in partnership with the Kenai Peninsula Transportation Committee, has created a survey to identify regional public transportation needs.
According to Tim Dillon, Executive Director of The Kenai Peninsula Economic Development District, filling the workforce has been difficult for business across the Kenai Peninsula. Dillion outlines 3 three things that contribute to the problem, housing, child care and transportation, as the issues that are part of what is holding employers back in todays economy.
Dillion discuss the transportation issues faced on the Kenai;
“We had gotten a lot of comments from folks about transportation. You know we do have C.A.R.T.S and then there’s a variety of other operations around the Kenai Peninsula and we talked to the State to try to figure out what we could do to help and see how we could make things a little bit more seamless and trying to be able to work not just with C.A.R.T.S but also with the cab companies. You know you have BUMPS down in Ninilchik, which is a bus.”
KPEDD is asking for public input to evaluate and expand access to public transportation on the Kenai Peninsula.
Dillon, outlines the survey;
“So, my staff, along with a group of folks from around the peninsula put together this survey. And what we would like people to do is to go online, fill it out, and this will help us. Just please be honest, what works and what doesn’t work. And any suggestions that they have so that we can take that and kind of put together a strategic plan for ok, how do we take the next step , what do we do.”
