At the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly Meeting, the funding of Kenai Peninsula Tourism and Marketing Council was brought into question.

KPTMC Director Shanon Hamrick explained the question of whether contracting out borough marketing services might save money.

Hamrick:”It was just a question that was posed by Charlie Pierce and he asked the mayor if he would consider doing that but Mayor Navarre did not really have a yes or no answer for him, and I’m sure if something like that were to happen it would probably be a process that would take a while.”

She said that she feels like the borough will definitely put the proposal into an ordinance at some point however is confident in KPTMC’s abilities.

Hamrick:”We would welcome the opportunity to do a proposal for marketing because we’re very confident in the job that we do and that we would come in far under budget for what other for-profit businesses would and we provide a higher level of service.”
