The SoHi girls lived at the free throw line on Friday morning against the Kodiak Bears knocking-down 19 of 33 on the Stars way to a 52-40 victory over the Kodiak Bears at the Northern Lights Conference Basketball Championships in the consolation/elimination game at Palmer High School.
The SoHi girls advance to the 4th/6th Place Game on Saturday against the loser of the tournament’s girls third-place game. The winner will be eligible (along with other conference’s third/fourth place finishers) for one of two at-large berths to the 4A girls state tournament.
SoHi Girls 52 – Kodiak 40
The Star girls opened-up a 16-7 first quarter lead on the strength of solid shooting from the floor, making two three-pointers and six total field goals. The Stars lead 32-15 at the half before Kodiak mounted a third-quarter charge and closed to 39-35 Stars. In the fourth quarter, SoHi and Kodiak combined for two field goals; one three for the Stars and one three for the Bears. All of the remaining points came from the free throw line, including 10 of 14 for SoHi which included 8 of 8 for Josie Sheridan.
Sheridan led all scorers with 19 points. Ellie Burns scored 12 for the SoHi girls with 10 in the first half including a pair of three-point baskets. Tanner Inman added 10 points for the second-straight game.
SoHi advances to play the winner of Saturday mornings 3rd-Place Game in the tournament’s 4th-Place Game at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
