Lady Stars Remain Unbeaten: Kenai Boys Defense Blocks The Stars

The Soldotna Star girls basketball team improved to 8-0 on the regular season and the Kenai boys defense pushed the Kardinals to 7-2 on Thursday night at Kenai Central High School.

 

SoHi 42 – Kenai 32

Kenai turned in it best effort of the season; the SoHi girls turned in the best fourth quarter and the Stars topped the Kards 42-32.

The Kenai Kardinal girls opened fast and built a 10-6 lead after one quarter.  The Kardinals and Lady Stars were tied at the half 18-18 and Kenai held a 27-26 lead after three quarters.  SoHi pulled away from the Kardinal girls 16-5 in the final quarter on the strength of their defense and converting turnovers.  Drysta Crosby-Schneider topped SoHi with 12 points; Logan Satathite recorded four, 3-pointers for a dozen points and Emma Beck scored 12 for the Kards.

Kenai Boys 47 – SoHi 30

Jordan Kvasnikoff scored the quietest 30 points ever; as the Kenai boys downed the Stars 47 -30 at KCHS on Thursday night.  Kenai lead 25-19 at the half and then the Kardinal defense allowed only a single field goal (and 8 freethrows) in the second half, including holding the Stars to no field goals for over 14 minutes.  SoHi’s Ethan Sewell scored 13 for the game, including SoHi’s only basket in the second half.  Kenai improves to 7-2 while the Stars drop to 1-7.

 

Homer girls 53 – Nikiski 28

Laura Inama lead the Homer Mariners to a 53-28 victory over the Bulldogs in Homer on Thursday.  Kinlee Jefferys topped the Bulldogs with 11 points.  Homer improves to 5-3.; Nikiski dropped to 2-7.

Homer boys 64 – Nikiski 39

The Mariner boys held Nikiski in-check early and built a 19-5 lead enroute to a 64-39 victory for Homer.  Carter Tennison recorded 19 points for Homer.  The Mariner boys improve to 7-1 on the regular season; Nikiski falls to 1-7.

 

Peninsula Conference Basketball

CIA girls 45 -Ninilchik 34

The Eagles outscored Ninilchik 45-34 for CIA’s first win.  Riley Tucker scored 12 points for the Eagles.

Ninilchik boys 77 – CIA 54

The Wolverine boys downed CIA 77-54 lead by a 19 point effort by George Nelson.
