Large crowds turned out for this weekend’s Industry Appreciation Day on the Kenai Park Strip.

Senator Lisa Murkowski joined the festivities that saw local politicians, community groups representing issues, and numerous industry leaders tending booths.

Sen. Murkowski: “So understanding the value of Alaska’s resources to Alaska and the country is a key part of what I try to do in educating people in Congress.”

Industry Appreciation Day is an annual event to showcase local business and community leaders in fields such as fishing, oil and gas, and tourism.

Former Soldotna Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Michelle Glaves was given the award for The Most Important Individual in Tourism and Marketing.

Glaves: “I am really humbled and honored to accept that.”

She said the award was a surprise because of how many talented local people work in the tourism industry on the Kenai Peninsula.
