Lars Arneson Sets Record In Kenai River Marathon

Fresh off a record-breaking performance in the 2022 Matanuska Peak Challenge in August,  local running sensation Lars Arneson broke the standing record for the Kenai River Marathon on Sunday.

 

Full Marathon: Men’s

Lars Arneson, 2009 graduate of Cook Inlet Academy and colligate athlete for UAF, set a blistering pace on the Kenai River Marathon course which wound through Kenai and Soldotna using city streets and bike trails to cover the 26.2 mile course.  Arneson raced to the half-way point in 1:14.28.8 and completed the final six miles in 30 minutes and 43 seconds.

Felix Wong placed second overall and second in the men’s division posting a time of 3:22:27,8.

 

Full Marathon: Women’s

Homer’s Amanda Cherok crossed the finish line in 3 hours, 32 minutes and 1.7 seconds for the fastest women’s time in the 2022 marathon event.  Elizabeth Roedl placed second in the women’s division in 3:32.53.7.

 

Half Marathon: Mens

Soldotna’s Lee Frey posted a winning time of 1 hour,26 minutes and 56.8 minutes in the men’s half marathon event setting a solid pace and finishing nearly 11 minutes in-front-of second place runner Landon Basner, 1:37.45.3.

Half Marathon: Women’s

Sterling’s Kristin Davis outran the women’s field in 1 hour, 37 minutes and 32.1 seconds; Davis also finished nearly 10 minutes ahead of second-place Sara Larsen in 1:47.07.6.

 

 

 

 

Marathon Relay

The Marathon Relay featured nine teams with Team MPC=MC3+H leading the pack in 3:11.52.4 with team members: Elijah Hutchison / Ian McGarry / Alek McGarry / Benjamin McGarry.

 

5K Run

Morgan Aldridge recorded the fastest time in the open 5K event crossing the finish line in 23 minutes and 32.8 seconds.  Jeriah Smith placed second in 24:51.9.
