Alaska Wildlife Troopers summoned a Soldotna man to the Seward courts for failure to salvage the hide of a coyote taken during the 2014-2015 Coyote Trapping Season in Game Management Unit 7.
Kristopher Richard, 35, was contacted by wildlife troopers after hikers discovered one of his snares which had caught and killed a coyote that was rotting in June 2015.
That season ran from October 2014 to March 2015 and although trooper investigation found that Richard had wrapped up his season in January 2015, he had not made sure that all his traps were taken.
Alaska Department of Fish and Game Biologist Jeff Selinger says each season hunters are responsible for mapping their traps and snares and making sure all have been made harmless at season’s end.
He also reminded hikers that they should be mindful of trapping and snaring seasons that take place in their recreational areas.
