Members of the Legislative Budget and Audit Committee are debating whether to have a hearing on Governor Bill Walker’s proposal to accept federal monies for Medicaid expansion.

Chairman Representative Mike Hawker said Walker could still pursue his plans for expansions despite what the committee says.

Requests for a hearing were given by Senators Anna MacKinnon and Cathy Giessel on Wednesday.

According to state law the governor can accept and spend federal or other program funds even if the committee disagrees.

Hawker said Walker has indicated his decision is final and Hawker said there’s nothing of substance for the committee to accomplish.
