Redistricting was addressed at the joint Soldotna and Kenai Chamber luncheon where Sen. Peter Micciche, Speaker Mike Chenault, Rep. Kurt Olson, and Rep. Paul Seaton spoke.

Speaker Chenault said that the redistricting is final and we asked if he thought it would affect their reelections.

Speaker Chenault: “I don’t know right now, it’s hard to say, June 2nd is the cut off date for filing for office so none us know if we will have opponents or not, currently none of us do but it wouldn’t surprise me if somebody wanted to run and think that they could do a better job and certainly they have that option to do that.”

Some of the changes affecting these legislators are K-Beach down to Homer will now join the Senate district currently held by Sen. Gary Stevens, Speaker Chenault gained Funny River from Rep. Seaton who also lost Seldovia and anything south of Kachemak Bay which now goes with Kodiak.

Rep. Olson’s district got a new number and lost up to mile 6.5 to Rep. Seaton.
