The entire Alaskan Legislature has gaveled out of the Governor’s special session, into their own special sessions, and introduced a funded operating budget.

 

The House of Representatives saw more opposition than the Senate of the motion to end the first special session, which still has about a week left.

Rep. Josephson: “That’s a clock that takes us out to about the 28th of May. As I understand it, what would happen under this new special session, is it would create a clock that would take us out to about June 20-21, which removes the pressure, creates greater uncertainty for those who are waiting on us to finish our business. I think it’s also a sign of disrespect to the office of the governor and that concerns me.”

 

Both sides of the legislature gaveled into their own special sessions immediately and introduced funded operating budgets in Senate Bill 2001 and House Bill 2001.

 

Those versions were passed on to the finance committees; the House’s will meet to take public testimony at 10:00 am tomorrow and the Senate’s will follow at 2:00 pm.
