Legislature Ties Gasline Money to Education

It’s no secret the Legislature and the Governor haven’t been seeing eye to eye when it comes to the ASAP project…

Speaker Chenault(R-Nikiski): “He’s a new governor and he’s getting his feet on the ground. Lots of things to learn, lots of things to get caught up on, so I’m giving him the chance and the opportunity.”

Gov. Walker: “This is the most unAlaskan thing I’ve ever seen put together.”

At the center of the debate, the Governor wants a “back-up” pipeline, the Legislature says that jeopardizes the AK LNG Project.

In an unusual move, the Legislature took the unspent funds from the gasline development fund and reallocated the money to education funding. Now, if the Governor vetoes that line item and restores gasline funding, he’ll be doing so at the expense of public schools.
