The Alaska State Legislature will gavel into their special session today at Juneau’s Bill Ray Center.

Along with working to agree on a sustainable budget and fiscal plan, Governor Bill Walker spoke last week about some of the topics they will be taking up.

Gov. Walker: “Deal with insurance, deal with foster children, deal with equal adoptions, and those are ones that have moved a long ways through the process, some have already been all the way through one body or another, passing with near or unanimous votes. We’re not submitting anything brand new that hasn’t been seen, we are bringing things that many have gone through a lot of hearing processes already, some will be able to pick up where they left off.”

Walker has said he intends to work closely with the legislature on some of the fiscal bills that he introduced which include new taxes for Alaskans and a rerouting of the state’s Permanent Fund.

The first meeting scheduled for today will begin at 1:00 pm.
